Garden Butterfly for Mother's Day

Hey Stampers,

The sweet card I am sharing with you today is another Mother's Day one. A friend of mine asked me to make a card for her to give to her mother in law, and here is what I came up with ! I borrowed the awesome Secret Garden stamp set and framelits fro my sister in law and paired them with the beautiful Best of Butterflies stamp set. LOVE that Best OF series !! In case you don't know, for Stampin' Up!s 25th Anniversary they are releasing a "best of" set every month of 2013 ! April's was Best of Butterflies and I LOVE it ! These sets are all available until March 2014. I really love this sweet card ... what do you think ??

I decided to use one of my favourite color combos of Primrose Petals, Old Olive and Pink Pirouette. To make it a bit more "wow" I also added in Gold. I took a piece of Very Vanilla measuring 3-3/4" x 5" and stamped my sentiment first. I used the Wonderful You from Loving Thoughts (great for a mother, right?) and stamped it in Jet Black StazOn. Then I took 2 of the solid image flowers and the leaf image and stamped them randomly. I wanted a fair amount of white space for this card, so my butterfly would really POP. Next I took a scrap of Very Vanilla and stamped my outlined flower image. I used my Blender Pens and watercolored it with my ink pads. I love how well the Primrose Petals and Pink Pirouette blend together, don't you ?? I then die cut out this image with the matching framelits. Then it was time for some gold !! I took a piece of the DELICIOUS Brushed Gold cardstock measuring 4" x 5-1/4" and adhered my stamped piece to it. Then I wrapped some Victoria Crochet Trim around it, and wrapped a piece of the 3/8" Primrose Petals Stitched Satin ribbon around THAT. I really love layered ribbons together ! I added the beautiful watercolored flower with some dimensionals, and a smattering of pearls. All of this was adhered to an Old Olive card base with some more Dimensionals. Then it was time for my beautiful stained glass butterfly !!

Its the first time I have done this "stained glass" technique and I am SO addicted now ! I took some of our wonderful Vellum cardstock (a lovely frosted paper than you can almost see through) and embossed my butterfly image with some VersaMark ink and Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. Once my embossed piece was COMPLETELY dry and cooled down, I turned it over and colored the image with my Primrose Petals and Pink Pirouette markers. Then when you turn the image back over, you can see the colors though !! Its a GREAT technique and turned out so beautifully, especially with the gold powder. I then carefully cut the image out with my Paper Snips and adhered the butterfly to my card with some Glue Dots. Love love LOVE it !!

Here's how I decorated the inside of the card. I stamped some more of the lovely flowers in the corners of a piece of Very Vanilla measuring 4" x 5-1/4". I stamped the mothers day sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes in the Jet Black StazOn ink onto a scrap of Very Vanilla and punched it out with the Word Window punch. I layered that onto a Pink Pirouette Modern Label and a Brushed Gold Large Oval. My envelope was also stamped in Primrose Petals and a piece of Pink Pirouette polka dot DSP from the Subtles Patterns DSP Stack was adhered to the flap. Love making my envelopes match my card !!

Thanks a lot for coming by today ! I really am pleased with this card, and I hope my friend's mother in law likes it too !! Come back soon, have a great day and Happy Stamping !!
