The last day of 2012 ! Crazy. I am working today, but we close at 3pm so thats good ! Going to my aunts tonight for a party. Should be fun ! I can't wait !! On a sadder note, a lovely family friend passed away this past weekend. Her funeral was yesterday, and I am particularly close to 3 members of her family (a neighbour and 2 good friends). Their mother/grandmother was such a lovely woman. She would always knit socks for my Jackson and give him little treat bags at halloween and everything. Such a sweet woman, and I will miss her. So I made 3 different cards for them, and I will share one of them with you today. This one uses the brand new Swallowtail background stamp that will be available on January 3rd from the Spring Catalogue. It is SO beautiful, and I though the symbol of a butterfly was nice for a sympathy card. Here it is, what do you think ??
I think this card turned out beautifully. I first embossed the image (this is a little more than half of the stamp ... it is a huge one! ) with Early Espresso embossing powder onto Very Vanilla cardstock. Then I sponged the image with Rose Red, Regal Rose and Pretty in Pink inks. Love the graduation of color from the darkest in the middle, to the lightest at the edges of the wing. This made quite a mess on the cardstock, all the inks everywhere, so I then fussy cut the butterfly out with my Paper Snips. Wans't too hard to do, but had to be careful around his antennae. The other bit of stamping was the beautiful sentiment from the Petite Pairs stamp set. I stamped it in Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla, and punched it out with my Large Oval punch. This was then layered onto a Scallop Oval punch in Rose Red. I find that simple can be so nice with a sympathy card.
My 3-7'8" x 5-1/5" Very Vanilla background layer was embossed with the stunning Fancy Fan embossing folder. Such a beautiful texture, and I though ti kind of looked like butterfly wings ! This was then layered onto a piece of Pretty in Pink that measured 4" x 5-1/4". I like the look of the very thin 1/8" border of the pink. I wrapped a piece of 3/8 Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon (retired) down the side and then attached the layer to a Rose Red card base. Its hard to tell from the picture, but the butterfly is attached in a fun way. I used snail to attach the body, then a layer of dimensionals at the middle of the wing and a double layer at the edge! So it looks like its really a 3D look, with such a sweeping dimension. Very cool. I then added the sentiment with some dimensionals and a coupe Basic Pearls and it was all done! I really think this is a beautiful card and could be changed up for lots of different occasions with lots of different color combos.
I hope you like my card today !! Have a great time tonight if you are going out to a party for New Years Eve and "see you next year" !! Happy Stamping !!
